If you have room for the 8 inch width on your desktop, it's exceptionally comfortable if your seat position and desk height are correct because if offers a large resting area for your wrists. You can literally put your forearms on this! Make sure desk height is correct so your arms are coming in level to slightly down towards the keys.
You can use this as a mouse pad in front of your keyboard, just place your mouse between your arms in the center.
